PTT Oil Slick Does Not Affect The Similan Islands At All

Just to reassure those who may be worried about the recent Thai oil spill affecting diving in The Similan Islands, there is ABSLUTELY NOTHING to be concerned about. PTT, the government-controlled oil company are investigating and trying to contain the situation, but it is in The Gulf of Thailand, not The Andaman Sea. Any fish, boat or particle of oil wanting to travel from the spill site to the Similan Islands, Hin Daeng, or Richelieu Rock would have to travel for thousands of nautical miles, around the tip of Singapore. Although it is an unfortunate fact that some Koh Chang diving sites and possibly those diving in Koh Tao will be slightly affected by the accident, the west coast of Thailand, including The Similans, Phuket, Phi Phi, Richelieu Rock and The Surin Islands will not be affected at all. In fact, with the good possibility of some diving tourists cancelling their trips to The Gulf, it may be advisable to book your Similan dive cruise or day trip sooner rather than later. With those who have already booked international flights to Thailand but wanting to change their dive destination, it's possible that Similans dive safaris are sold out more quickly than usual.
