MV Bunmee 4 Overview
Bunmee 4 is a brand-new purpose-build scuba diving liveaboard boat that fits perfectly in the mid-range level of price & luxury. There are many advantages of choosing Bunmee 4 for your next Similan liveaboard diving safari, and these include the space, comfort, great value, professional team, and its wide choice of itineraries. Although the boat’s size, comfort and facilities are very important, the people who own & operate them are equally vital. Bunmee 4 scores highly on all counts. The boat is 28 metres in length and nearly 6 metres wide. Built in 2016 on a steel hull, Bunmee 4 is safe, stable and comfortable in any seas in Thailand during the Similan diving season. Although, speed is not too important for Similan liveaboard diving boats, Bunmee 4 is powered by a couple of brand-new 420HP Hino motors that are located strategically as far away from the guest cabins as possible. These motors enable the boat to cruise quietly and smoothly between dive sites. Compressors and Nitrox blenders are also situated practically at the rear of the boat.
Bunmee 4 can accommodate up to twenty lucky guests, most of who are divers, but non-divers are welcome at a 20% discounted rate. However, instead of trying to fill every trip to the maximum, the owners & management of Bunmee 4 prefer to focus on giving the very best service to between 10 and 15 guests rather than fill every cabin. Their long-term goal of a great reputation and repeat customers is more important to them than making more money in the short term. This philosophy comes from 30 years of working in scuba diving, and 20 of those years in southern Thailand. They know just what kind of service their customers expect, and provide that throughout the season.
There are ten guest cabins on Bunmee 4, each accommodating no more than two guests. Eight of the cabins are on the main deck, and referred to as ‘Marina Cabins’ and they can have double or twin beds. Each Marina cabin has its own private en suite bathroom. On Bunmee 4’s upper deck there are a couple of ‘Horizon Cabins’ which share a bathroom. The staff and crew of Bunmee 4 have their own bathroom facilities, and do not share with the guests. Each cabin is cleaned every day and towels are replaced. Each cabin also has its own safety deposit box, and of course they are all air conditioned. There is also free Wi-Fi when the boat is within range of a cellular signal. The communal areas on Bunmee 4 are clean, spacious, and carefully designed to ensure the maximum comfort & safety. The covered dining area is where the meals are served, briefings are given, and most evenings are spent with guests socialising. There are also a couple of areas where guests can sunbathe, read a book or gaze at the stars in the clear night sky. The dive deck is large and well designed, enabling equipment to be stored, divers to gear up & move around easily, and of course dive from & climb back on to.
Unlike most other Similan liveaboard boats, each dive briefing on Bunmee 4 includes a video presentation on the boat’s large flat-screen tv. This is much better than using a whiteboard with a drawn map of each dive site. Another detail on Bunmee 4 that guests won’t find on other boats at this price range is that breakfasts can be pre-ordered. These small details can make a large difference. Dinner and lunch are served buffet style. Don’t expect to lose any weight on your Bunmee 4 diving cruise, because the food is both delicious & plentiful. A wonderful blend of Western and Thai cuisine is perfect to keep everyone fuelled for a busy day’s diving.
Finally, Bunmee 4 has a wide selection of cruise itineraries, which include three days to the southern islands of Hin Daeng, Hin Muang, Koh Haa & Koh Phi Phi. There are also longer trips of four days and five days in length which go to the Similans & Surin Islands, including Richelieu Rock, Koh Tachai & Koh Bon. Plus, divers can combine shorter southern trips with four-day, four-night trips to the north and stay on board for eight days & nights. The extra day & night come from a day trip around Phuket in between cruises. Taking into account the age and size of Bunmee 4, its cabin facilities, service and the wonderful team which run the trips, there is no better boat for scuba diving liveaboard cruises in Thailand.
